Entering Anna Hu’s boutique in NYC’s Plaza Hotel is like stepping into a magical, life-size jewel box, where a camellia-shape ring blossoms open and closed, a tarantula brooch shudders, and a crane on a pearl necklace carries a rare jade flute in its beak. The Taiwan-born designer, who trained at Van Cleef & Arpels and Harry Winston, recently unveiled her first shop, which houses her exotic treasures. A former classical cellist, Hu strives to impart a lyrical harmony to each piece, right down to an engagement ring whose miniscule briolette diamonds gently sway in the breeze.
